Celebrate the 4th of July in Telluride! 🇺🇸

Written by Ken Grodberg

4th of July in Telluride

The Telluride 4th of July Parade is the town’s longest-running tradition, celebrating America’s independence with a lively procession of kids, dogs, floats, and more—on Colorado Avenue at 11 a.m.

Telluride, Colorado delivers a uniquely mountain-town Independence Day experience. Against the backdrop of historic Victorian architecture and rugged peaks, here’s your ultimate guide to a red‑white‑and‑blue weekend.

Parade & Morning Events

- Rundola Uphill Race kicks things off at 7:30 a.m. from Gondola Plaza, ascending to San Sophia Ridge.
- The Fourth of July Parade begins at 11 a.m. on Colorado Avenue, marching from Aspen to Willow.
- Expect float-decorated trucks, pets, marching bands, candy tosses—and even a military aircraft flyover.

Town Park Bash

Right after the parade, head to Town Park (500 E Colorado Ave) for a day of fun from 12–4:30 p.m.

- Live bands:

- The Sweet Heavy (12–1 p.m.),

- Gravity’s Child (1:30–2:30 p.m.),

- Niceness (3–4:30 p.m.)

- Family Zone: Classic games—three-legged races, egg-and-spoon, mechanical bull—plus face‑painting and more

- Food & Drinks: Local food vendors, a beer/wine garden, non-profit booths—all part of a festive community atmosphere.

Laser, Drone & Fireworks Spectacular

- At dusk, Town Park lights up with “The Spirit of Independence,” a choreographed laser & drone show — followed by

- A fireworks display at ~9:40 p.m. — capped by “Celebrating Telluride: Past, Present & Future,” a second light/drone show

- Fireworks depend on weather and fire conditions; in case of cancellation, the drone show still dazzles.

Mountain Village Celebration (July 3–4)

Just a quick gondola ride away, Mountain Village hosts the Red, White & Blues event:

- July 3 (1–5 p.m.): Heritage Plaza hosts circus acts, cotton candy, and photo booths.

- July 4:

- Bob Hemenger performs (1–5 p.m. at Sunset Plaza),

     - J.D. Clayton’s band plays (5–7 p.m. at Reflection Plaza)

Extend the Experience

- Plein Air Festival: Running June 30–July 6, with artists painting live in Town Park

- Historical stop: Visit the Telluride Historical Museum for root-beer floats and local heritage

- Sightseeing: Catch the gondola to inspire on-hill meals, or hike to Bridal Veil Falls (365 ft waterfall) —great pre- or post-celebration adventure.
